“Liurai-Oan Ki'ik” (The Little Prince), first published in French as Le Petit Prince in 1943, is a classic of world literature that has delighted generations worldwide in hundreds of languages.
A short book for children and adults who remember being children, it celebrates friendship, love, the beauty of simple things and the joy of life. Its author, French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, disappeared during the Second World War.
The Tetum-Praça translation by João Paulo Esperança, Triana Corte-Real de Oliveira and Emília Almeida de Araújo was published in Timor-Leste in 2010. It was followed by Tetum-Fatumea (Covalima) in 2024, translated by João Paulo Esperança and Mariza Ximenes, and Tetum-Welaluhu (Fatuberliu) in 2025, by João Paulo Esperança and Bonifácia da Costa Magalhães.
This new Tetum-Praça edition presents two orthographies side by side, inviting comparison and contributing to the dialogue on which spelling system best serves our children's future.
